An evening of tomatoes, and only tomatoes...
Two weeks ago, we hosted our first ever night market at the farm stand. The words night market sound so magical to us, and it’s always been something we’ve wanted to do, but hadn’t quite gotten around to it. But when we began to get a sense of what this year’s tomato crop was going to be like, we knew right away that we had to do something, and find some way to show you all just how magical tomatoes can be.
We broke down our regular market a little bit early that day, and by 6pm, every surface of our market was covered with TOMATOES. So many! We ourselves had never even seen all of our varieties come through the market in one day, because our crew usually harvests them in waves, concentrating on one type of tomato or another depending on what they feel is a priority. We try to have a little bit of everything at the market every day, but it doesn’t always work. Some days our crew will focus on mainly cherry tomatoes, and other days slicers and plum tomatoes. Many of you have stopped by the market hoping for a box of Sungold cherry tomatoes, but all you could find was some other kind of cherry tomato- maybe Green Envy? Or Black Cherry? Perhaps one of the Bumblebee tomatoes or even the Green Tigers…? Maybe there weren’t even any cherry tomatoes at all and we sent you home with a GIANT yellow Nebraska Wedding…!
That’s how we do it around here.
We LOVE to try new things, and we hope so much that you do too.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made our night market a success, we had a lovely time! Here’s a long visual list of our varieties for the 2016 season (although it looks like we are missing a few here- oops! We were probably too busy eating tomatoes…).
